“Introduction To Sleep Studies” is a song by The Ohayogozaimas. It was released August 26, 2016 as the first single for their album No-Nonsense. The music video for the song was made by UNE. As of 2023, this song has 68,000 views on YouTube. It was featured on the compilation album BRAT PACK 2017.
The song's lyrics are about the importance of sleep and come across as a lecture for a secondary school course.
The song is 4 minutes, 18 seconds long. It begins with an alarm clock sound effect as guitar feedback brings the song to a start. The song has a rising and descending motif to it. The main riff is played on bass guitar and accompanied by a scream by Saba. The main riff is repeated in a proper way, The second half of the verse has a call and response section with Saba and Nagi. The chorus of the song is also structured in a call and response sort of way, this time with Utsu-P and Saba. The second verse replaces the first section with a breakdown-esque section. After the second chorus, the pre-breakdown buildup starts, featuring Utsu-P doing some sort of strange harmonic sound with his bass guitar. The breakdown is based around a sustained dissonant chord. The breakdown feels like it destroys the song, so the post-breakdown section feels like it builds the song back together as the held chords are more melodic this time around. The chorus plays one more time, and the song ends with a loop of the main riff, it incorporates the breakdown's riff for the final notes.
The album version from No-Nonsense is a different recording. It's a subtle difference, but the most obvious change is the re-recording of the “go to bed” line which starts the breakdown
